Charlotte Area Transit System, LYNX Blue Line Extension Preliminary Engineering and Final Design

Project Overview

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is extending the Blue Line light rail commuter service known as the LYNX in the Northeast Corridor. This 9.3-mile alignment extends from Ninth Street in Center City Charlotte through the North Davidson (NoDa) and University areas, ending at the UNC Charlotte campus.

It will assist to reduce traffic congestion, ease environmental impacts, and enhance the overall quality of life in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. In light of Charlotte’s growing population, the project will also help local, state, and federal agencies reduce traffic fatalities and injuries, and reduce the environmental impact of air and noise pollution.

The schedule tool utilized was P6. Envision prepared all monthly updates and project reporting within the established work breakdown structure. Envision’s extensive experience with Oracle® Primavera P6 software had streamlined the reporting process and incorporated cost and resources to the project schedule. Envision developed the construction section of the project schedule working with the CATS team to incorporate it into the overall project schedule. Envision’s Senior Team supported the project team with the FTA PMO Analysis. Envision had provided a full-time Document Control Administrator utilizing Oracle® Contract Management.
