CATS LYNX Blue Line
Project Overview
The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is extending the Blue Line light rail commuter service known as the LYNX in the Northeast Corridor. This 11-mile alignment extends from 9th Street in center city Charlotte through the North Davidson (NoDa) and University areas to Interstate 485 north of UNC Charlotte.
By incorporating the LYNX Blue Line Extension into the existing comprehensive transportation system that includes roads, buses, bus rapid transit and commuter rail, the city can provide more choices and alternatives to the commuting public. It will assist to reduce traffic congestion, ease environmental impacts, and enhance the overall quality of life in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. In light of Charlotte’s growing population, the project will also help local, state, and federal agencies reduce traffic fatalities and injuries, and reduce the environmental impact of air and noise pollution.
