NJ Transit, Portal Bridge Capacity Enhancement

NJ Transit, Portal Bridge Capacity Enhancement

Project Overview

The Portal Bridge, opened in 1910, spans the Hackensack River between the Kearny and Secaucus and is a vital part of the Northeast Corridor system. The Portal Bridge Capacity Enhancement Project was an effort between Amtrak and NJ Transit to improve and increase the capacity of this vital rail crossing.  Once the preferred alternative was selected, the project progressed into the Final Engineering and Design phase.
