Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, Easton-Phillipsburg (Route 22) Toll Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, Easton-Phillipsburg (Route 22) Toll Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Project Overview

The Easton-Phillipsburg Toll Bridge carries U.S. Route 22 traffic over the Delaware River. The main river bridge consists of a 540-foot Petit through-truss span over the river; a 430-foot, five-span plate-girder viaduct at the New Jersey approach; and a 40-foot pre-stressed concrete box beam span over PA Route 611 on the Pennsylvania approach. The overall length is 1,020 feet. The one-way toll plaza has five lanes and is located in the westbound direction on the New Jersey side of the bridge.

In June 2013, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) started construction activities for the multi-faceted rehabilitation of the 75-year-old Easton-Phillipsburg Toll Bridge and its related facilities (Route 22 exit and entry ramps, approach roadways and bridges, and toll plaza) in Easton, PA and Phillipsburg, NJ. The Easton-Phillipsburg Toll Bridge, its approach roadways and bridges, adjoining toll plaza and nearby highway exit and entrance ramps had reached a state of wear and deterioration that required rehabilitation, repairs and improvements. The goals of this project were to increase the lifespan of the bridge, enhance safety, and prevent major repairs and long-term travel lane closures for a minimum of 15 years.

Envision provided CPM scheduling services, as well as public outreach services. Public outreach services included; agency and stakeholder coordination, database development and maintenance, graphic materials, and coordination of public information meetings. Envision was also responsible for managing the project’s social media outlets, including Twitter, to inform the public of construction activities.
