New Jersey Department of Transportation, Burlington County Bridge Commission Painting and Structural Repairs for Tacony-Palmyra Bridge

Project Overview

The Burlington-Bristol Bridge, Tacony-Palmyra Bridge and their toll plazas underwent commercial coating removal, rehabilitation and painting. Bridge Commission officials estimated the cost to be about $45 million for the rehabilitation and painting of both bridges, as well as $45 million for a bridge deck replacement on the Burlington-Bristol Bridge.

The rest of the plan included $9.25 million to replace equipment used for openings on both spans and the free Riverside-Delanco bridge over the Rancocas Creek; $2.5 million to construct “traveler systems,” movable platforms beneath the bridges, for easier inspections and repairs; $7.1 million to replace electrical wiring on the Tacony-Palmyra, and $1.2 million for regular structural maintenance. The last time the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge was completely painted was in 1985, but certain sections have been repainted since then.
