San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency Central MUNI Subway Tunnel
Project Overview
Muni Metro is a light rail system serving San Francisco, California, operated by the San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni), a division of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). Serving 156,900 passengers a day, Muni Metro is the second busiest light rail system in the United States. This project included a new 1.7-mile tunnel extension of the Muni Metro light rail system in San Francisco, California, from the Caltrain commuter rail depot at 4th and King Streets to Chinatown. The subway was the second phase of the Third Street Light Rail Project. Ground was broken for the new route on February 9, 2010 and was scheduled for completion by 2016. The project involved constructing a tunnel under two existing tunnels (BART & SFMTA) servicing Chinatown, the shopping district, convention center, and the AT&T ballpark. Envision was responsible for the review and assessment of the baseline schedule, the review of monthly updates to the schedule, participation in risk assessment, cost estimating and review of public involvement plan.
Envision reviewed and assessed the public involvement plan and community engagement activities for Muni Metro. Envision also provided scheduling and risk assessment services for the FTA & SFMTA. Envision assisted the design team in developing the master schedule for the project and was involved in the constructability review of the overall project. Three risk assessments have been performed on the project with Envision running the Pertmaster schedules to determine the most realistic completion date of the project based on all of the risk factors. In addition, Envision has been part of the review team establishing the risk factors for the project and developing the risk register spreadsheet. Envision reviewed the monthly schedule submittals and supports monthly meetings when requested.
